Surroundings

Heuvelland , is a grouping  of 8 villages and one of the largest rural municipalities of Flanders, offering a surprisingly rich variety  of entertainment.  There is much to do in terms of recreation.  Walking is a pleasure in the region, since well marked routes will direct  you to the best sites and views

The "Kemmelberg" known by all cyclists, is frequently a part of the cycling routes within the region.

The violence of world war one   has left its mark in Heuvelland and  its surroundings.  In Ypres, Passendale, Zonnebeke and the nearby Messines Ridge,  there are many important reminders of  the terrible events which marked the history of Europe in the early days of the last century. The museums   "In Flanders Fields" and the "memorial museum Passchendaele" as well as the haunting last Post at the Menen  gate every evening at 8.00 pm are not to be misssed.   Also in Wijtschate,  the Bayernwald trench system and the Pool of Peace  are visited annually by thousands.

Further west, hopfields  determine the view. In the town of  Poperinge , the regional hopmuseum will teach  you everyting to know  about hops and its culture.

For the sportsperson, the "Palingbeek" golf and countryclub  offers  to both beginners and advanced players, a challenging 18  hole;  6165 meters; par 72 course situated in the picturesque beauty of the Flemisch  hills.
